Description

Barts Health NHS Trust, one of the largest NHS Trusts in the country, is seeking an exceptional individual to take on the role of Chair. This is an exciting opportunity to lead a highly respected healthcare organisation, shaping the future of services that reach over 2.5 million people across East London and beyond. With a commitment to delivering safe, high-quality care, you will play a crucial role in guiding the Trust through the evolving healthcare landscape.

Barts Health is a world-renowned healthcare provider with a rich history of excellence. The Trust operates five hospitals: The Royal London, St Bartholomew’s, Whipps Cross, Mile End, and Newham. Our range of services is comprehensive, from community services to specialist tertiary care, and we are home to cutting-edge research and innovation in fields such as cardiac care, cancer, and trauma. We also play a critical role in addressing health inequalities in some of the most diverse and dynamic communities in the UK.

Our vision is to be a high-performing group of NHS hospitals, renowned for excellence and innovation, and providing equitable, safe and compassionate care to our patients in east London and beyond. We are now striving towards becoming an outstanding group of hospitals and we are looking for a Chair who can work with us on this journey.

As a long-standing pioneer of innovation in health, the Trust is also at the forefront of integration to provide joined up health and care services for those we serve, to improve outcomes and reduce inequalities, working with a range of partners to drive this key transformation and change for a fit for purpose NHS provider for the future.  We are part of the North East London Integrated Care System, and are proud to work as part of the imperative of providing the right care, in the right place, at the right time, through working with our system partners.

As Chair of Barts Health NHS Trust, you will be responsible for leading the Trust Board and ensuring that the Trust’s governance arrangements are effective and fit for purpose. You will work closely with the Group Chief Executive,  Executive Directors and Non Executive Directors to ensure that the Trust’s strategic objectives are achieved, with a strong focus on the delivery of high-quality, patient-centred care. Your leadership will be crucial in guiding the Board as it sets the strategic direction of the Trust and navigates key challenges in the healthcare environment.

In this role, you will ensure that the Trust meets key performance and financial targets while championing its core values and maintaining a strong commitment to patient safety and care quality. You will act as an ambassador for the Trust, engaging with a wide range of stakeholders, including patients, staff, regulators, and the local community. Additionally, you will promote diversity, inclusion, and innovation across all areas of the Trust’s operations. Furthermore, you will play a key role as the Chair of the Acute Provider Collaborative, enhancing collaboration across the healthcare system.

We are seeking an individual with significant leadership experience at Board level in a large and complex organisation. You will have a deep understanding of governance, risk management, and strategic oversight, ideally gained within healthcare or a similarly regulated environment. You will also need to demonstrate a commitment to the values of the NHS and have the ability to foster positive relationships across a diverse range of stakeholders.

This role requires a leader who can inspire trust, act with integrity, and guide the Trust with confidence through both challenges and opportunities as well as providing cooperative leadership in the Acute Provider Collaborative.

Barts Health NHS Trust is committed to equality and diversity and welcomes applications from all members of the community.

Join us in shaping the future of healthcare for millions of people.
